After two weeks off, the Eureka Garages and Sheds Sprintcar Series will return to Geelong’s Avalon Raceway for the fifth round of the series with a new series leader and a couple of returning drivers to the already impressive line up for the Boxing Day Gold Cup event.
The battle for the Eureka Garages and Sheds Series will take another heated step forward with the series lead changing after the fourth round at Avalon Raceway earlier this month.
Simpson’s John Vogels has been remarkably consistent this season, with his third podium placing in third position securing him the series lead over Lilydale’s Mike Van Bremen, the round one winner at Avalon Raceway.
Van Bremen admitted his result was below par last round and is looking to bounce back and resume hostilities with Vogels, who would love to extend the series lead heading into the second half of the season in a bid to win his fourth Eureka Garages and Sheds title.
One of the notable changes for the fifth round will be that of six time Eureka Garages and Sheds Series winner Matthew Reed returning to his familiar seat in the V#92. Reed has been successful with podium results this season aboard the Matt Eastham owned V#88 but will no doubt improve in his own surrounds.
Warrnambool’s Jamie Veal, fourth on points, is nearing his peak form after a couple of solid performances including a strong fourth position in the last round of the Eureka Series at Avalon Raceway. Along with Brett Milburn and Deniliquin’s Eddie Lumbar, all in the top five, they will be key players on Boxing Day.
Local driver Domain Ramsay and regular stars Rod Matthew from Ballarat, youngster Nick Lacey and Bacchus Marsh’s Charles Hunter will all be pushing their machinery to the limit to setup the second half of the season in the Eureka Garages and Sheds Series.
Although the line up for Boxing Day is dominated by Victorian drivers, South Australian Craig Vanderstelt will make the journey to rattle the cages of his interstate rivals. Vanderstelt has contested two rounds of the Eureka Series this season and although not finishing the first round in November at Avalon Raceway, he showed the car speed to match the best.
For those that enjoy following young talent, former Junior Sedan racer James McDonald is certainly one to monitor. It will be the fifth race meeting for the 17-year-old and the smooth racer will clearly improve week in week out.
Also among the strong car count for two rounds of heats, a top six time trial and B and A Mains will be Carl Ludeman, Ashley Bourke, Chris Campbell, Darren Russell, Brett Smith, Ron Dalton and Ryan Davis.
