 :: PRESS RELEASE ::
:: Blue Ribbon Event For Eureka Series

Tuesday, 5 January 2010
Jarryd Stokes

The Eureka Garages and Sheds Sprintcar Series will reach halfway distance this Saturday night (January 9) at Horsham’s Blue Ribbon Raceway with the sixth round attracting a quality line up including drivers fresh from racing against some of the biggest names in Sprintcar racing in the past week.

Over the Christmas and New Year period a number of regular Eureka Garages and Sheds Series drivers contested events such as World Series Sprintcars and will bring their added confidence to Horsham this weekend.

Warrnambool’s Jamie Veal, third on points in the Eureka Series, made the A-Main in all three events of World Series Sprintcars he contested over the festive season, with two of those results in the top ten. That form, along with his solid first half of the season, will place him in good stead for Horsham.

Eureka Garages and Sheds Series leader John Vogels has been outstanding this season, not missing a podium in the series. The Simpson mechanic also figured at Avalon Raceway and Premier Speedway last week in World Series competition.

Fifth place in the Eureka Series and round two winner Brett Milburn has been one of the busiest local Victorian drivers over the merry season, also racing in three events after the last round of the Eureka Series back on Boxing Day at Avalon Raceway in Geelong.

The only driver to win multiple A-Main events in the Eureka Garages and Sheds Series this season is second place Mike Van Bremen. ‘The Flying Dutchman’ dominated the 30-lap final on Boxing Day in round five of the series and four nights later raced again at Avalon Raceway, before packing up over the New Year in readiness for the second half of the Eureka Series.

Exciting youngster Nick Lacey has been in the wars the last fortnight, first of all having a tough night in the last round of the Eureka Series, before ending up upside down in World Series Sprintcars action. On Sunday night, Lacey also competed in the South Australian Sprintcar title at Murray Bridge, finishing 11th.

Winning the South Australian title on January 3 and going back to back in the event was Steven Lines, driving for Victorian car owner David Challons. Lines, from Mt Gambier, has been prominent in Horsham the last two years, finishing fifth last season and third in one of the best A-Mains of the 2007/2008 season.

Another South Australian with a liking to Blue Ribbon Raceway is Glen Sutherland, also from Mt Gambier. Sutherland had a career best result of second last season in the corresponding round, while finishing sixth in 2007/2008.

Other drivers nominated for Saturday night competition are top ten Eureka Garages and Sheds drivers Domain Ramsay, Rod Matthews, Eddie Lumbar and Charles Hunter.

Wichelsea’s Ryan Davis, fourth in the A-Main on Boxing Day, will be brimming with confidence after his best result to date, while Phil Lock will also be eyeing off a strong result after some outstanding displays in 360 Sprintcar racing this season.

South Australian drivers Craig Vanderstelt and Dylan Jenkin, along with Victorian regulars Ron Dalton, Brett Smith and Carl Ludeman are all among the strong list of Sprintcar drivers set to compete two rounds of qualifying heat races, a top six time trial, B and 30-lap A-Main event at Horsham’s Blue Ribbon Raceway this Saturday night.
