 :: PRESS RELEASE ::
:: Make Or Break For A Number Of Eureka Stars At Moama

Wednesday, 13 January 2010
Jarryd Stokes

The Eureka Garages and Sheds Sprintcar Series will head to Moama’s Heartland Raceway this Saturday night (January 16) with a number of drivers earmarking the seventh round as a make or break event.

A welcome cool change has drifted through Victoria and southern New South Wales which will bring relief to teams that contested the recent round in oppressive conditions at Horsham’s Blue Ribbon Raceway last weekend.

Simpson driver John Vogels will head the field at Heartland Raceway this Saturday night after extending his series lead over Mike Van Bremen by 158 points.

Vogels has not missed a podium result in the Eureka Garages and Sheds Series this season and will be looking to make it difficult for the chasing bunch of drivers led by Van Bremen and Warrnambool’s Jamie Veal.

Van Bremen will be hoping for a similar track that greeted him in February last year, where he led the A-Main at times in a thrilling 30-lap final, to eventually finish in fifth place.

Veal has been regaining his best form in recent weeks, including a strong second place at Horsham putting him in a good position for the second half of the Eureka Garages and Sheds Series.

Pearcedale’s Brett Milburn, round two winner back in November at Mt Gambier’s Borderline Speedway in South Australia, finished in fifth place at Horsham and just like Veal this Saturday night is an occasion where ‘The Jet’ needs to post another strong position to stay in touch with the series leaders.

In the last round of the Eureka Sprintcar Series held at Heartland Raceway back in February last year, Geelong’s Domain Ramsay impressed by starting the 30-lap final off the front row. Ramsay had his chance to win the final, but while running inside the top five he crashed out in turn four on the final lap.

Winning the A-Main last year was six time SRA Series champion and current Victorian state titleholder Matthew Reed. ‘Mr Speed’ has been in stunning form at times this season and will be hard to catch this Saturday night.

Every driver in the KTM top ten points table will be in attendance, including Rod Matthews, Charles Hunter, Nick Lacey and Eddie Lumbar.

Bendigo’s Darren Hickman, a round winner of the Eureka Garages and Sheds Series last season, will join the likes of Victorian favourites Ron Dalton, Carl Ludeman and South Australian Daniel Pestka for the round seven event.

The format of racing will see two rounds of heats, a last chance B-Main event, a top six shootout and a 30-lap A-Main event.
