 :: PRESS RELEASE ::
:: It’s Showdown Time For Eureka Series

Tuesday, 2 March 2010
Jarryd Stokes

One of the biggest weekends of Sprintcar racing in Victoria will be held this Saturday (March 6) and Sunday night (March 7) when the Great Southern Showdown, doubling as round nine and ten of the Eureka Garages and Sheds Series, goes on the line at Simpson Speedway and Geelong’s Avalon Raceway respectively.

With a boost in prize money and the tightening of points in the Eureka Garages and Sheds Series, nominations have swelled attracting some of the countries most electrifying drivers for the two night affair.

For the first time, south west venue Simpson Speedway will play host to the first night of the Great Southern Showdown before the action heads to Avalon Raceway on Sunday night, with both nights set to showcase Victoria’s best and some of the countries most exciting Sprintcar drivers.

Some wild Sprintcar racing will be expected at Simpson Speedway on Saturday night, with hometown hero John Vogels keen to extend his 113 point Eureka Garages and Sheds series lead.

Vogels has done more laps than anyone around Simpson and not only will have to take on series challengers Jamie Veal and Mike Van Bremen, but also World Series Sprintcars young gun James McFadden, South Australian Steven Lines and well known livewire David Murcott in one of the strongest line ups seen at Simpson Speedway in recent memory.

“It’s one of the best list of drivers I’ve seen at Simpson and also Avalon on Sunday night, I know the drivers are looking forward to the added prize money for the weekend and that goes a long way to attracting some big name drivers, which we like to race against.

“David Murcott, Robbie Farr, James McFadden and a couple of others, they will add a lot to the series and make it tough for us Victorian drivers to face that sort of competition. It makes you want to do well and hopefully at the end of Sunday night at Avalon we would have had a good weekend and still be at the front of the Eureka Series,” Vogels enthused.

On Sunday night, all drivers will head to Geelong’s Avalon Raceway leading into the Monday public holiday including the addition of one of the leading drivers in the country Robbie Farr, defending Great Southern Showdown winner Matthew Reed and Victorian excitement machines Darren Mollenoyux and Grant Anderson.

The final night of the Great Southern Showdown, the tenth round of the Eureka Garages and Sheds Series, will begin with time trials to determine heat race grids and end in a $5,000 to win final.

Joining the above drivers mentioned will be last round Eureka Garages and Sheds Series winner Dylan Jenkin, alongside fellow podium place getters at Hamilton Ashley Bourke and Glen Sutherland.

Promising lady racer Taylor Johnson from New South Wales will experience Simpson Speedway in a Sprintcar for the first time and also join the action at Avalon Raceway.

The Eureka Garages and Sheds KTM top ten Domain Ramsay, Brett Milburn, Rod Matthews, Charles Hunter, Eddie Lumbar, Nick Lacey and Ryan Davis will all be in action over the two nights.

It promises to be one of the must see two nights of racing in Victoria this season, with the Eureka Garages and Sheds Series at a pivotal point in the final month of racing and the added prize money set to push drivers to their limits on two completely different racing tracks for the Great Southern Showdown.
