:: Plenty Of Incentive For Sprintcar Stars At Warrnambool

Tuesday, 9 March 2010
Jarryd Stokes

After the frustration of a wet weather weekend cancelling Sprintcar action in Victoria, a star studded line up will head to Warrnambool’s Sungold Stadium to contest the 2010 Victorian Sprintcar Championship this Saturday night (March 13), which doubles as the third round of the Eureka Garages and Sheds Series which was washed out earlier in the season.

Thanks to the management of Premier Speedway and the Sprintcar Racing Association of Victoria round three of the Eureka Garages and Sheds Series was able to be rescheduled to be included in the Victorian Championship, which will add more incentive to the Victorian regulars that will face some boom nominations.

Over 40 Sprintcars will be pushed out on the infield for the start of racing, headed by defending state champion Matthew Reed, World Series Sprintcar stars Robbie Farr, James McFadden and Ryan Farrell and Eureka Series leader John Vogels, plus dynamo drivers David Murcott, Steven Lines, Grant Anderson and Luke Dillon.

It is an exciting list of drivers that will race against Eureka Garages and Sheds Series regulars Jamie Veal, Mike Van Bremen, Brett Milburn and Domain Ramsay on one of Australia’s finest venues, fitting for a Victorian Championship.

If using form as a reference to potential results this Saturday night is any guide than McFadden is positioned well to be in the finish. The rising star of Australian Sprintcar racing has had two decent top five finishing results at Sungold Stadium this year.

McFadden finished in fourth place in the final of the Grand Annual Sprintcar Classic, while on January 26 during a round of World Series Sprintcars finished fifth. Likewise for Farrell, on New Years Day he finished in sixth place, while at the Classic was on the podium in third position.

Farr led the majority of the New Years Day A-Main to be pipped in the dieing stages and eventually claim second place and the recognised superstar will no doubt be one of the favourites to win the Victorian Championship this weekend.

Reed has shown enough form at Sungold Stadium, recording an eighth in the Classic, to show he is in good enough form to defend his title against a superb line up of drivers.

Joining the list of names above will be hometown favourites Veal and two drivers that have not been regular speedsters this season Stephen Bell and Darren Mollenoyux. Veal is well poised second on points in the Eureka Series, while Bell will strap into the Matt Eastham owned V88 and Mollenoyux will put his best foot forward on his favourite track.

The interstate flavour is well represented, with leading Tasmanian driver Jason Redpath, 360 Australian Champion Ryan Jones among the list of South Australian drivers and New South Wales lady racer Taylor Johnson all notable drivers to keep an eye on.

The Victorian battle will be intense, with the KTM top ten in the Eureka Series tightening up in the run home to the finish line. Rod Matthews, Charles Hunter, Eddie Lumbar, Nick Lacey and Ryan Davis will all be in attendance.

It is building up as one of the most open Victorian Championships contested, with over a quarter of the field realistic chances of winning the blue ribbon Eureka Garages and Sheds Series round.
