The SRA is please to have a full house for this occasion that will see the season awards and the Eureka Garages and Sheds Series presentations to the winners and prize poole money being handed out. The 2012-2103 season was a very successful season of racing and now with a full house for the presentation dinner this capes off one of the most successful season the SRA of Victoria has had for many years. Pestka takes Victory in Sprintcar Gold Cup
Sunday May 5, 2013. Ian Vale
Daniel Pestka took the victory in last nights SRA 360 Sprintcar Gold Cup at Western Speedway Hamilton, from the last season’s winner Darren Hickman and Paul Solomon in a race that had highs and lows for a few of the main contenders. On a cool evening and a well prepared race surface that would see lap times in the mid eleven second bracket which was a second quicker that when the open sprintcars were at the venue on there last visit a month earlier the action started off with four heat races. Heat one and Pestka set the pace taking out the win, Matthew Reed won heat two in convincing style from Michael Cunningham, Cunningham would make contact after the race with another car that would see the V10 car roll and out of the show for the rest of the night. Heat three would also see the demise of one of the favourites for the Gold Cup, Ryan Jones who rode a wheel in the back straight sending him into the wall and into retirement for the night as well but the defending Gold Cup Champion Darren Hickman would go on to take the win. The last heat race went to Daniel Evans who put in a very impressive drive that would also see Daniel qualify for the top six shootout. Next up was the top six time trial shootout that would see the starting order shuffled around, first out was sixth highest qualifier Domain Ramsay who would set the time to beat at 11.492 seconds. With the shootout over no driver bettered that time so it was Ramsay that would start from P1 in the Gold Cup from Matthew Reed, Daniel Evans, Chris Solomon then Pestka who was the top points scorer that was demoted to the fifth place starting position ahead of Hickman who also was demoted down the order with a poor time trail as well. Green Flag for the sixteen competitors that qualified for the Gold Cup and Reed headed Ramsay into the first turn to come off turn two in the lead, as Reed crossed the line for the first lap the order followed with Ramsay, Chris Solomon who got the better of Evans from Hickman, Pestka, Paul Solomon and Lumbar filling eight place. It was not long before the leading trio were heading into lapped traffic, Ramsay had the speed but Reed was handling the traffic well to keep Ramsay at bay. Lap eight and the red lights were on when Evans was making a pass to lap Farrer and contact was made with the V99 car of Farrer’s rolling and out of the race, Evans would also retire. Back under way and Reed was holding off Ramsay once again leaving Chris Solomon a little further back. The action was back in the pack with Pestka, Hickman, Lumbar and Paul Solomon in a fierce battle trying to move up the ladder. Rory Button, Phil Lock and Chris Best were staging there own little war for supremacy as well. Heading into the latter part of the race the action was heating up at the front between Reed and Ramsay as these two moved through lapped traffic, Ramsay closed in on Reed and was looing for a way past, now while these two drivers were hard at Chris Solomon was able to also close in on the leading pair. Pestka, Hickman, Lumbar and Paul Solomon were still in a race of there own. With one lap to go Ramsay had moved in to be right on the tail of Reed and sensed a shot at victory, heading down the back straight for the last time Ramsay was moving in for an outside pass as the leaders entered turn three only for Reed to catch another lapped car where he has to lift a little only for Ramsay who was attempting an outside pass to make contact with Reed’s right rear wheel and send them both into a wild roll and out of the race. Now a little more drama was about to unfold as the field came to a stop for the red light situation, Chris Solomon got through the carnage unscathed to bring his car to a halt but when he shut the engine down an exhaust fire burnt his left rear tire down and eliminated him from the race along with both Reed and Ramsay. As the leaders had not received the chequered flag the race would restart with a green, white, chequer to decide the winner, On the restart the order was now Pestka, Hickman, Lumbar, Paul Solomon, Button, Lock, Best and Irons who was two laps down. At the restart Hickman took his best shot but could do nothing to deny Pestka from the win, but Lumbar was not so lucky as Paul Solomon wasted no time on the restart to demote Lumbar to forth place. The order was first home Pestka who took his second feature win here at Western Speedway Hamilton in four weeks followed by Hickman, Solomon, Lumbar, Button, Lock, Best and Iron. A Tough Field for SRA 360 Sprintcar Gold Cup at Hamilton
Monday April 29, 2013. Ian Vale
Western Speedway Hamilton will present the annual 360 Sprintcar Gold this Saturday night the 4th of May with a very tough field of competitors nominated for the event. Defending Gold Cup winner Darren Hickman will be back looking for another win but when you add into the field the likes of Victoria 360 Sprintcar Champion Matthew Reed, South Australia’s Daniel Pestka who won the 360 event at Murray Bridge two weeks ago, three times Australia 360 Champion Ryan Jones and last season Victorian Champ Chris Solomon you know this is going to be a tough night of racing. The list of hard chargers doesn’t stop there, a few of the regular open drivers will put 360ci power plants in for the weekend, Domain Ramsay, Michael Cunningham and Deniliquin’s Eddie Lumbar to mention a few to try and challenge the regular 360 competitors. Now both Matthew Reed and Daniel Pestka have taken out feature wins here at Western Speedway in the Eureka Series and the current form both drivers are in at the moment may give them a little advantage over the rest of the field. Chris Best is also retuning for a late run this season, although Chris has only done a handful of races he has shown he is capable of mixing it with the front runners. Shane Heathcote is a consistent competitor at all 360 Sprintcar events and will be a serious challenger on the night as will both Paul Solomon and Brad Foster. Chris Evans from South Australia has stepped aside for the Gold Cup to put the very fast Ryan Jones in the S77 machine, Ryan will no doubt have to start the event as one of the favourites for a win. Joining Ryan will be Chris’s son Daniel Evans in the second of the team cars. The very impressive South Australian Rory Button will also be a contender looking for the Gold. Other drivers that are entered for the Western Speedway Gold Cup are Zac Farrer, Scott Irons, and Tasmania’s Tim Flower along with Gippsland’s Peter Logue, Warrnambool’s Corey McCullagh and Ken Hutchins from Bacchus Marsh. The early starting time for the event will have the on track action commencing at 4.30pm for the engine starts and hot laps before racing gets underway at 5pm at Western Speedway Hamilton for the running of the 2013 SRA 360 Sprintcar Gold Cup. Although this will be the final event on the SRA 2012-2013 seasons calendar it will a night not to miss. Mollenoyux takes Eureka Round Reed takes Eureka Crown
Monday April 15, 2013. Ian Vale
Darren Mollenoyux took the win in last nights Eureka Garages and Sheds Sprintcar Series Grand Final at Premier Speedway Warrnambool but it was not enough to retain the Series Crown with Matthew Reed finishing in sixth place to give him the 2012-2013 Eureka Garages and Sheds Sprintcar Series Title by ninety two points and his seventh Series Title. Forty five sprintcars lined up for time trails to get the afternoon under way that would see John Vogels set the fastest time of 10.863 sec in the session. Now the importance of the time trial was not only to seed the drivers in their heats and to start off their qualifying points but for the top six qualifiers for the A Main it meant they would get the time back and start the A Main as per the qualifying times. Eight heat races was the order of the night with the usual few hard luck stories to come out of the heat races, John Vogels was the first casualty in heat one after setting fast time in time trials, engine mechanical failure would end his night early. Heat three and Peter Milnes was out with chassis damaged as was Mike Van Bremen in heat five after rolling the V6 machine. S20 driver Glen Sutherland was having a good night only to roll over in his final heat race to finish his night and out of the rest of the show. Heat eight and one of the favourites for the win on the night Steven Lines also joined the retirees after mechanic failure also ended his run. So with the heat races won and done it was time for the C Main, ten laps was the journey, Quentin Tanner took the win from Michael Cunningham, Chris Solomon and Phil Lock who took the last transfer spot after Domain Ramsay’s good run from deep in the pack to a transfer spot came to a halt when he rolled the Essendon Ford machine on the last lap of the race. The B main and the last chance for the drivers to transfer into the A Main didn’t go too far, the red lights were on and the demise of a few drivers, Rod Matthews, Simon Van Ginneken and Andy Caruana were all out from the incident. On the restart Adam King took control in the flag to flag race only to have Steven Bell snatch the win on the final lap and transfer to the A Main, going along with Bell was Shaun Dobson, Adam King, James McFadden, Jake Smith and Brett Milburn. It was now time for the last race of the Series and the one that counted, this race had more than a feature race win on it, it was the final decider of the 2012-2013 Eureka Garages and Sheds Series Championship. The starting order was Lumbar from P1 and Rankin who elected to start from P2 after topping the points table from Jake Tranter then Series contender Matthew Reed, Will Carroll and defending Series Champion and contender Darren Mollenoyux were the top six qualifiers. The other drivers that qualified direct into the A main were Daniel Pestka, Jamie Hennessey, Dennis Jones, Taylor Millings and Brett Milburn that were also join by the top six from the B Main. Not one to waste an opportunity to lead a race Lumber jumped into the lead at the drop of the green flag, Rankin dropped down the order but it was Mollenoyux moving from sixth on the grid to second place by the end of lap one. Lumbar was holding off Mollenoyux while the rest of the field settled down, a few laps in and both Dobson and McFadden were making their presence known as they moved through the pack. Mollenoyux was on Lumbars tail tank looking for a way past before making the move to take the lead on lap seven leaving Tranter now behind Lumbar. Hennessy was the first to retire to the infield then it all went wrong for Rankin who up ended the V55 car in turn two to finish his night on lap nine. The restart went no further than turn one with Carroll hitting the wall bringing the caution back on again. Carroll out and it was take two but once again the race was stopped this time for Lumbar and Tranter who tangled going into turn three with the end result the luckless Bell and Jones also getting involved in the incident that would see both drivers and Lumbar take no further action in the event. Back under way once more and Mollenoyux held the lead but he now had Pestka in second place and the two movers, Dobson and McFadden had also worked there way up to third and fourth place ahead of Lee who had passed Reed, Reed was not too worried about all the action going on in front of him and was sitting in a comfortable six place knowing that he had the Series Championship in his grasp if he finished, next in line was Jake Smith from Brett Milburn, Adam King and Brett Smith. It was not long before the final stoppage of the race was on to remove Taylor Millings car after he rolled on lap thirteen. Once again Mollenoyux lead the field away on the restart, heading into the final laps of the race leading Dobson who had put a move on Pestka to take second place and then try to reel in Mollenoyux, but it was not to be with Mollenoyux going on to take a comfortable win from Dobson, Pestka home in third and McFadden having to settle for fourth place ahead of Jack Lee and the new Eureka Garages and Sheds Series Champion Matthew Reed who crossed the line in sixth place, rounding out the finishers were Jake Smith, Brett Milburn, Adam King and Brett Smith. Mollenoyux tried his best on the night and took the A Main victory but it was the Consistency of Matthew Reed that was the big winner who added another title to his already impressive resume. Heat race wins on the night went to: S45 Jake Tranter, N36 Eddie Lumbar, V92 Matthew Reed, V29 Will Carroll, V22 Quentin Tanner, V82 Simon Van Ginneken, A1 James McFadden Eureka Garages and Sheds Series nightly contingency awards: (ELF RACING FUELS top point scorer – V55 Rob Rankin HOOSIER TIRE AUSTRALIA random draw between position 6th and 18th – 15th place – N36 Eddie Lumbar D&F RACING PRODUCTS hard luck of the night – V70 John Vogels AMERICAN TIRE & RACING SERVICE a $100 product voucher for the most cars passed in the A Main at each round of the Series – V36 Shaun Dobson (12 cars) (This award will go to the driver that finished the higher if any ties) CASCADE NATIONAL P/L 1st competitor not to transfer from B to A-Main – V7 Paul Solomon End of Series awards: Eureka Garages & Sheds major sponsor of the Series overall prize money poole. The SRA 360 Sprintcar Gold Cup to be Rescheduled
Tuesday April 9, 2013. Ian Vale
The SRA 360 Sprintcar Gold Cup that was planned for Western Speedway Hamilton this Saturday night has been rescheduled to May the 4th due to three other venues within one and half hours drive of Western speedway running on the same night. It was felt that this change was in the best interest of not only Western Speedway but for the competitors and the spectators with so much racing on in the area. With the Eureka Garages and Sheds Series grand final also moved to Sunday afternoon the 14th of April after the rain out some of the competitors who had planned to race at Western Speedway could not committee to both events and were now concentrating there efforts to run at Premier Speedway. The Sprintcar Racing Association thank the management of Western Speedway Hamilton and support them in the decision made in the best interest of all parties concerned and look forward to running the 360 Sprintcar Gold Cup in May. The SRA and Western Speedway apologise for any inconvenience that this may have caused.
The Eureka Sprintcar Series Grand Final heads to Premier Speedway
Tuesday April 9, 2013. Ian Vale
The rescheduled Eureka Garages and Sheds Sprintcar Series Grand Final heads to Premier Speedway Warrnambool this coming Sunday afternoon the 14th of April for the battle of the Eureka Series Championship between defending Series Champion Darren Mollenoyux and current Series points leader Matthew Reed but forty four other drivers nominated want a slice of the action as well. With most of the Eureka Series feature winners from this season on hand, Steve Lines, Brett Milburn, Daniel Pestka, John Vogels, Matthew Reed and James McFadden the current Australian and World Series Champion nominated this final round of the Series will be one tough event. The racing will commence at 3pm on Sunday afternoon and the time trial will be very important to get a good start with some early points before the heat races are contested. Both Reed and Mollenoyux will need to shine early and then have a safe run in the heats to make sure they qualify into the events A Main. A failure by Mollenoyux to qualify into the A Main will almost certainly hand the Eureka Garages and Sheds Title to Reed but if Reed missed a qualifying berth Mollenoyux would need to finish seventh or better to retain the Title. Now with only 139 points separating Reed from Mollenoyux going in the final round of the series the point gained in the heats can also play a big part of the outcome before the main event. While these drivers racing for the Eureka Series Title many of the Series regulars will be out for a strong result and to lock themselves in for a chance at the KTM Freeride motorbike or a shot at the Essendon Ford trip to America. Now let’s not forget the Eureka Garages and Sheds points fund of over $35,000, $10,000 will go the newly crowned 2012-2013 Eureka Garages and Sheds Sprintcar Series Champion while a further $15,000 will be paid out over the top fifteen drivers that competed in the minimum required rounds of the Series. Hoosier Tires Australia and Camden Neon Signs also supported the Eureka Series prize Poole to make it one of the biggest prize pooles seen in the series that is fully funded by the Series sponsors only. The list of awards over the Series goes on thanks to John Sidney Racing, The Metric Men and Parr Motorsports who have also added to the end of Series awards to be won as well, plus the nightly awards sponsors that have made the Eureka Garages and Sheds Sprintcar Series a leading Series in this country. With some of the best drivers in the country looking for the glory this Sunday afternoon the field is packed with many hard chargers, Mike Van Bremen has been knocking on the door for a feature win this season and what about fast Eddie Lumbars return to form! Tim Van Ginneken and Steven Bell have thrown there hats into the ring as well. Dennis Jones, Kris Lacey and the ever improving Taylor Millings and Michael Cunningham will be in the mix, the list goes on with over forty six nomination already received. Don’t miss it, the 2012-2013 Eureka Garages and Sheds Sprintcar Series Grand Final on Sunday the 14th of April at Premier Speedway Warrnambool with on track action to commence at approximately 3.00pm The Eureka Garages and Sheds Sprintcar Series top twenty drivers in the standings: Eureka Garages and Sheds Series – KTM Top 10: 1st – Matthew Reed – 3882 2nd - Darren Mollenoyux – 3743 3rd – Brett Milburn - 3531 4th – Michael Van Bremen - 3274 5th – John Vogels 2999 6th – Bradley Warren 2862 7th – Dennis Jones 2701 8th – Darren Hickman 2454 9th – Domain Ramsay 2418 10th – Will Carroll 2406 Essendon Ford – Trip to America (End of Series random draw between 11th & 20th place) 11th – David Murcott 2381 12th – Michael Cunningham 2251 13th – Eddie Lumbar 2233 14th – Tim Van Ginneken 2214 15th – Peter Milnes 2016 16th – Glen Sutherland 1991 17th – Steven Bell 1966 18th – Brendan Balcombe 1937 19th – Carl Ludeman 1798 20th – Steven Lines 1762 The Sprintcar Racing Association of Victoria thank the following Eureka Garages and Sheds Sprintcar Series sponsors: EUREKA GARAGES & SHEDS, KTM AUSTRALIA, ESSENDON FORD, MD MOTORSPORT, HOOSIER TIRE AUSTRALIA, CAMDEN NEON SIGNS, AMERICAN TIRE & RACING SERVICES, PARR MOTORSPORTS, JOHN SIDNEY RACING, CASCADE National Pty Ltd, THE METRIC MEN, D&F RACING PRODUCTS, ELF RACING FUELS, COREY GIBSON PHOTOGRAPHY, MAXAM PRINTING, SPRINTCARWORLD. Who will be crowned the Eureka Garages and Sheds Series Champion
Wednesday March 13, 2013. Ian Vale
Premier Speedway will be hosting the Eureka Garages and Sheds Sprintcar Series Grand Final this Saturday night that will be something Special to who ever takes the Title, to be crowned the Eureka Garages and Sheds Series Champion this years will carry a little more prestige with it, This season is Eureka Garages Sheds tenth season as the naming rights sponsor which is a outstanding contribution to not only the SRA Eureka Series but to Speedway in this country. After last weekends rounds of the Series the battle is shaping between the defending Eureka Series Champion Darren Mollenoyux and current points leader Matthew Reed separated only by 139 points. Mathematically Brett Milburn is still in the hunt with 430 points possible on the night but a lot of luck would have to go Brett’s way to take the Title. Once again there is over forty driver nominations received already for the Eureka Series Final and just to spices things up a little more last round winner David Murcott will be back again in the V10 ART Car along with the Hamilton Series round winner Daniel Pestka who will also be joined by the Australian Sprintcar Champion James McFadden plus Steven Lines who has won three rounds of the Series already this season. These drivers plus past Eureka Series Champions John Vogels and Matthew Reed along with Brett Milburn have all won a round of the Eureka Series this season and they all want to add another win this weekend to there resume. With the calibre of the drivers attending wanting to take a win there is still a lot at stakes for the Eureka Garages and Sheds Series regular drivers with so many end of Series awards still to play for. The Top Ten KTM Freeride Motorbike valued at over $13,000 is one of the major awards and at present there are three drivers, Michael Cunningham, Eddie Lumbar and Tim Van Ginneken who still have a chance to qualify into the Top Ten for a shot at winning the KTM at the dinner. But failing to make the Eureka Garages and Sheds KTM top ten the next ten drivers 11th thru to 20th are in with a chance to win the Essendon Ford trip to America for two people. A finish in the top fifteen in points also carries prize poole money for the drivers that competed in the minium required rounds of the Eureka Sprintcar Series, with over $35,000 going out in the prize poole thanks to Eureka Garages and Sheds along with the support points fund sponsors, Hoosier Tire Australia and Camden Neon Signs, the Series winner will take home $10,000 from the fund. John Sidney Racing, The Metric Men and Parr Motorsports also have very lucrative end of Series awards to be won as well, not to forget the nightly awards sponsors that have made the Eureka Garages and Sheds Sprintcar Series one of the leading Series in the country. Over ninety five different drivers have contest the Eureka Series this season which it testament that this is a very competitive Series that has attracted competitors from every state in the country and some of the visiting American drivers. Murcott Wins the Penultimate Eureka Series Round at Avalon
Monday March 11, 2013. Ian Vale
David Murcott took a convincing win in round eleven of the Eureka Garages and Sheds Sprintcar Series at Avalon Raceway last night on a near perfect race track from defending Eureka Series Champion Darren Mollenoyux and visiting American driver Geoff Ensign. Once again a healthy car count was on hand for the penultimate round of the 2012-2013 Eureka Garages and Sheds Sprintcar Series at Avalon Raceway with hot weather conditions prevailing during the afternoon and evening but that did no detract from a great night of sprintcar action. All eyes were on Matthew Reed once again to see if he could stretch his lead in the Series points over his nearest rivals Darren Mollenoyux and Brett Milburn but by the end of the nights action it was Mollenoyux who had reduced Reeds point lead back from 205 points to 139 heading into the final round next week at Premier Speedway. The heat racing went through relatively incident free with the exception of heat three that saw a multi car pile up that involved Matthew Reed, the question was could the points leader take the restart with the damaged received? With the race under way and Reed running from the rear of the field it was not long before he moved forward to eight place at the finish of the race and gained valuable points to keep him in with a chance to qualify into the A Main. With the points once again added up from the heat races to grid the drivers up for the Top six time trial and the Main events for the night it was defending Eureka Series Champion Darren Mollenoyux on top of the table. So the top six were Mollenoyux, Dennis Jones, Brett Milburn, Eddie Lumbar, David Murcott and Matthew Reed, Reed had tied on points with two other drivers for the last spot but with his faster time in the heat races he secured the final spot and more importantly the chance to keep in touch with his main rivals ahead of him on the night. Murcott was in good form and put the V10 car on pole with the best time from the top six from the very excited Eddie Lumbar who was putting in his best performance for the season, in P3 would be Mollenoyux, P4 Reed followed by Jones and Milburn. Joining the top six direct into the A Main would be Brett Smith, Geoff Ensign, Kris Lacey, Will Carroll, Peter Milnes and Quentin tanner. The C Main was taken out with a flag to flag race by John Vogels to give him a transfer through to the B Main, Michael Tancredi, Rhiannon Burleigh, and Jamie Heyen would also make the transfer. The last change B Main had a few of the main contenders in it as well but after the fifteen lap journey it was Mitch Foster who defeated Mike Van Bremen from Domain Ramsay, then Darren Hickman, Carl Ludeman and the Presidents Cup winner Jamie veal driving the V88 car that would transfer to the back of the Eureka A Main. With the nights racing moving along quickly it was time for the Eureka Garages and Sheds A Main, Murcott took the lead at the drop of the green flag with Lumbar settling into second followed by Mollenoyux, Reed, Milburn and Ensign. The top three were setting a fast pace and were into lap traffic by lap six, Murcott was opening a gap over Lumbar and Mollenoyux who were staging a war between themselves, Lumbar was in top form keeping Mollenoyux at bay for many laps before Mollenoyux made a pass into second on lap fifteen, Lumbar was not taking this lying down and re passed Mollenoyux down the back straight only get caught momentarily with lapped traffic which allowed Mollenoyux to take second place again. While the action up front was going on Reed had his hands full with Ensign to eventually lose P4 to Ensign at mid race distance. Veal was moving through the pack as well to be in P9 nine when the only race caution came on for a spinning Domain Ramsay on just over mid race distance. Murcott had been keeping a commanding lead from Mollenoyux prior to the caution lights which he resumed on the restart, Lumbar had not give up hope on taking second place back but he now had Ensign to deal with leaving Reed, Jones, Carroll, Milburn, Veal, Hickman and Lacey in a race of there own. As the laps run down Murcott had gapped Mollenoyux who now had Ensign on the attack after he disposed of Lumbar to forth place but not out of a chance still for a shot at a podium placing. With the Chequer flag waving it was Murcott from Mollenoyux with Ensign close behind followed by Lumbar taking the top four places over Reed, Jones, Carroll, Veal, Milburn, Hickman, and Lacey, rounding out the other finishers was Van Bremen, Smith, Milnes, Foster, Ramsay and Tanner. The Eureka Garages and Sheds Sprintcar Series Grand Final is to be conducted next Saturday night the 16th of March at Premier Speedway Warrnambool with on track action to commence at approximately 5.30pm Heat race wins on the night went to: V10 David Murcott, V68 Brett Milburn, V60 Geoff Ensign, V77 Darren Mollenoyux, V92 Matthew Reed, V17 Dennis Jones. Eureka Series Points Leaders have no change after Simpson round
Sunday March 10, 2013. Ian Vale
The top three drivers going into round ten of the Eureka Garages and Sheds Sprintcar Series at Simpson Speedway last night maintain there point positions with Matthew Reed taking the win from Darren Mollenoyux and Brett Milburn leaving the Series still wide open heading into tonight’s penultimate round of the Series at Avalon Raceway. While the Series leaders staged a battle of there own all night looking maxim points it was Mitch Foster and Liam Williams who put in the most impressive performance on the night. Foster shone in the heat races to be the top points scorer going into the A Main Top six time trial that would see him drop from pole position to the sixth starting spot but it was a good showing for Foster on the night. Liam Williams Driving the Bruce Stephen V91 was the performer in the Eureka Garages and Sheds Series A Main charging from position fifteen after having to transfer from the B main through the field to finish in fourth place hard on the tail tank of third placed Brett Milburn. The Top Six time trial once again was pivotal in the final A Main stating positions, Foster was demoted from P1 to P6 while Matthew Reed move from P5 to P2 along side Brett Milburn in P1 Rod Matthew also moved up the starting order to P3 and visiting American driver Geoff Ensign filled the P5 grid spot Leaving Mollenoyux in P4. The six drivers transferring from the B main to the A Main had a few of the more fancied drivers in it, Mike Van Bremen took the win to take with him to the A Main Brendan Balcombe, Liam Williams, Charles Hunter, John Vogels, and Tim Van Ginneken. Milburn won the Start in the Eureka Garages and Sheds A Main before the first caution, on the restart Milburn could not shake Reed and it was not long before a small mistake on lap seven allowed Reed the chance to take the lead that he would hold for the rest of the race. The real battle was between Mollenoyux and Geoff Ensign for third that raged nearly all the race. With a caution light on once again with three laps to go the restart lap saw many changes for the final placings, a slight mistake by Ensign going into turn three allowed Rod Matthews through and Liam Williams who was the mover of the pack demoting Ensign to sixth place. While these placings were changing behind the leaders Mollenoyux had also put a move on Milburn to take the second. At the chequered flag it was Reed, Mollenoyux, Milburn, Williams, Matthews, Ensign, Warren, Cunningham, Ramsay, Lock, Van Ginneken, Jones, Van Bremen and Ludeman. With the next round of the Series tonight, Sunday night the teams were quickly on the road to ready them selves for another $5000 to win purse in round eleven of the Eureka garages and Sheds Series at Avalon Raceway. Eureka Sprintcar Series twin $5000 to win shows this weekend
Tuesday March 5, 2013. Ian vale
The Eureka Garages and Sheds Sprintcar Series heads into the long weekend with two rounds of the Series paying $5000 to win each night, Saturday night the action is a Simpson Speedway followed the next night, Sunday night at Avalon Raceway. With the Eureka Series Championship still an open affair between five drivers and the extra money and valuable points all guns will be blazing looking for the Gold and Glory. Matthew Reed is the man most wanted as he heads into the weekend with a handy 195 points lead from defending Eureka Garages & Sheds Series Champion Darren Mollenoyux and Brett Milburn a further 114 points back. With a possible maximum of 400 points on offer at each round there are still plenty of chances for many drivers to improve in the standings of the Eureka Champions. While the Series crown might be out of reach for some drivers the opportunity to make the KTM Top Ten is on to secure a spot and a chance to win the KTM Freeride motorbike prior to going to Premier Speedway the following week for the Series final. Now to add a little more spice to round ten at Simpson Speedway many of the drivers have not yet had a run on the new track layout which may prove to be a disadvantage to some of the drivers. Over thirty drivers have nominated for Simpson for round ten of the Eureka Garages and Sheds Series while the Avalon round has received over forty nominations already. Reed, Mollenoyux and Milburn will be pushed hard at Simpson by local hero and five time Eureka Series Champion John Vogels, Vogels opened his Series account with a win in round one of the Series, although he has had a few mixed results during season John was back and racing hard last week at Hamilton where he finished third on the night. Two times Series Champion Mike Van Bremen will be ready for the action and is also in good form, some of the other drivers heading to both Simpson and Avalon Raceway will be Dennis Jones, Domain Ramsay, Brad Warren, Glen Sutherland and Eddie Lumbar. Carl Ludeman and Will Carroll along with Tim Van Ginneken will represent some of the Warrnambool drivers. Daniel Newnham, Charles Hunter and Brendan Balcombe will also be three more locals that know there way around the Simpson venue. The next night of the Eureka Garages and Sheds Sprintcar Series at Avalon Raceway has attracted a few more drivers for the round eleven action, David Murcott will be back once again to try and secure his spot in the Eureka Series KTM top ten, Murcott has tasted victory at Avalon this season by taking out the $10000 to win Jackpot race. David is also the current leader of the Essendon Ford Track Championship and would like to take a win and try to secure the Essendon Ford Fiesta car as well as grab the Eureka Garages and Sheds $5000 first place money. Matthew Reed is also in the chase for the Essendon Ford Championship so there is a little more at stake for this round of the Series but with another nine plus drivers joining the field it will be a big night of action. Mitch Foster, David McKay, Liam Williams Bendigo’s Darren Hickman will join in at Avalon with other Series regulars, that will be present for both rounds, Kristy Ellis, Quentin Tanner, Brett Smith, Michael Cunningham and all are more than capable of mixing it with the best drivers on there night. The Smith Brothers Racing have also entered for both rounds of the Series with there American driver Geoff Ensign to add a little more flavour to the events once again. Once again Simpson Speedway and Avalon Raceway have added another carrot for the drivers to chase over the two nights this weekend with a $3000 prize Poole that will be award to the top four drivers from both the A Main events points combined. Pestka Makes the Quick trip to a Eureka Series Win
Sunday March 3, 2013. Ian Vale
Daniel Pestka’s late decision to make the trip to Western Speedway Hamilton for round nine of the Eureka Garages and Sheds Sprintcar Series after the long trip home from Western Australia earlier in the week paid off by taking a very well deserved feature win in the Eureka Series last night. With a lower car count than expected the competition level was at a high with drivers racing hard throughout heat races looking to qualify in the A Main on the newly prepared racing surface at Western Speedway. As the Eureka Series heads into the final few rounds this was going to be a very important night for the both Darren Mollenoyux and Brett Milburn that pose the biggest threat to Series Leader Matthew Reed to close the gap in the championship. Well history will show that that this was a tough night for the main challengers that would see both Mollenoyux and Milburn having to transfer to the A main via the B main giving them a tail end start and a chance to try and close the gap the Reed. The six heat races produced six different winners, with the points added up and the grids for the final events set, the top six qualifiers went to the top six time trial for final shot at improving there starting grids while the next six qualifiers in positions seven thru to twelve locked into the Eureka Garages and Sheds A Main leaving the rest of the field racing from the B main for the last six transfer spots. First up was the Top Six time trial which once again produced a mixed results, first out was the sixth highest qualifier Daniel Pestka, Daniel set the time to beat that was not bettered by the other drivers taking him from sixth on the grids to pole position, at the completion of the time trials the order was now Daniel Pestka, Brad Warren who was enjoying another good nights racing, John Vogels, then the top points qualifier Matthew Reed who drop down the table from Mike Van Bremen and Darren Hickman. With the new Western Speedway racing surface settling down nicely the times were starting to tumble during the night and a second grove was now available for outside passes, it was time for the final races of the night. Brett Smith lead the field home in the B main to transfer to the A main taking with him Brett Milburn, Darren Mollenoyux, Eddie Lumbar, Luke Bowey and Brendan Balcombe to join the other qualifiers from 7th thru to 12th Michael Cunningham, Glen Sutherland, Will Carroll, Tim Van Ginneken and Dennis Jones. Eureka Garages and Sheds Final time, with time ticking away it was proving to be a marathon to get the first lap recorded with four attempts for spinning cars and two separate roll over’s. Sitting on the infield with their night over was Adam Sealey, Dennis Jones, Series Championship contender Brett Milburn and Darren Hickman. With the race eventually under way it was Pestka to show a clean pair of heals from Reed and a charging Vogels, who demoted Warren down to fourth place, it was not long before Pestka moved in on the lapped traffic gapping himself from Reed with a couple of laps cars between them. Warren, Van Bremen and Cunningham were busy racing just behind the leaders leaving Carroll to fend of the challenges from both Van Ginneken and Mollenoyux who was having a rare night down the field by his standards. Pestka was in scintillating form moving through the field lapping all before him up to eight place, Reed could not close the gap down as Pestka kept two lapped cars between himself and Reed with Vogels a little further back. Lap sixteen and disaster stuck for Cunningham while having one of his best runs for the season, after tagging the turn four wall Cunningham Rolled his machine down the front straight to finishing his run for the night. Now with the curfew only a few minutes away the stewards were left to meet the curfew time and it was now a run to the flag with a green white checker to finish the race, Pestka immediately open a gap on Reed at the restart to go on and take a comfortable win from Reed and Vogels then a very happy Brad Warren in fourth from Van Bremen, Carroll and the last car on the lead lap Mollenoyux. The other finishers were Sutherland, Balcombe, Lumbar, Smith and Bowey. Daniel Pestka was the man on the night taking his first Eureka Garages and Sheds Sprintcar Series feature win in fine style, while Matthew Reed had no answer for Pestka it was still a good night for the Eureka Series points leader who opened the gap on his nearest rival a little further to just under two hundred points with three rounds to go. John Vogels showed the form of old with another good showing that keeps him in the chase for a mathematical chance of the Series Championship or a more realistic shot at a top three place. Heat race wins on the night went to: V74 Michael Cunningham, V6 Mike Van Bremen, V92 Matthew Reed, V29 Will Carroll, V70 John Vogels, V54 Brad Warren. The Long weekend is the next two rounds of the Series with $5000 to win at each round of Eureka Garages and Sheds Sprintcar Series to be conducted on Saturday the 9th of March 2013 Round 10 at Simpson Speedway, Simpson followed by Round 11 the next night Sunday the 10th Of March at Avalon Raceway Lara . Eureka Sprintcar Series head to Western Speedway Hamilton
Monday February 25, 2013. Ian Vale
The Eureka Garages and Sheds Sprintcar Series heads to Western Speedway Hamilton for round nine of the Series this Saturday night, with an early start of 5.PM for the race meeting. A top field of competitors will be on hand in the battle for the Series Points chase and the feature win. Matthew Reed heads into this round as the Series points leader ahead of the defending Eureka Series Champion Darren Mollenoyux and Brett Milburn who is keeping in touch with these two drivers in the points chase. Milburn knows what it is like to lead the points as he was the leader earlier in the season, unfortunately a couple poor results dropped him down the line but with the win in the last round of the Eureka Series at Heartland Raceway Brett is back in the Series Title chase. Another strong result here at Western Speedway will apply the pressure more to both Reed and Mollenoyux. The top two in the points, Matthew Reed and Darren Mollenoyux both scored feature wins in Victoria Title Championships held Avalon Raceway recently, Reed took out the Victoria 360 Sprintcar Title while Mollenoyux was crowned the Victorian Open Sprintcar Champion, Reed will be back at Hamilton with his 410ci power plant back in so we will have the last three feature race winners in Victoria heading into this round of the Series in good form and also as the top three in the Series. South Australia will have representation from Series regulars Glen Sutherland and Jamie Stark while Eddie Lumber will make the trek down from New South Wales for this round of the Series. Reed and Mollenoyux take Victorian Titles
Sunday February 17, 2013. Ian Vale
Matthew Reed and Darren Mollenoyux were the winners in the Victorian Open and 360 Sprintcar title’s at Avalon Raceway last night, Reed took out the Belmont Diesel 360 sprintcar title while Mollenoyux crossed the finish line to win the John Sidney Racing / Eureka Garages and Sheds Open sprintcar title in yet another close finish. With sixty plus sprintcars in the pits to contest the Victorian 360ci and Open sprintcar titles it was going to be another tough night of racing and once again the hot weather of late was also present to throw some more challenges not only the track curators to present a suitable race track but to also give the teams the challenge to find the correct setup to suit the hot conditions that were present right throughout the nights racing. Time Trials, one heat race each followed by a top six dash before the Main events was the order of the night activities for both the Open and 360 Sprintcars. It was the 360 sprintcars that were first out for time trials with Jamie Veal setting the fastest time of 12.156 seconds, this time was not betted when the open sprintcars ventured onto the track for there time trials, Shaun Dobson set the best time of 12.426 second in this group, a time that was a little slower than the 360 sprintcars. These qualifying times would be reflected in the heat races with slower lap times mainly in the high twelve to low thirteen second bracket showing the heat of the day had taken the best out of the track. A couple of the early and more fancied drivers that experienced problems that would end there night early from the title races in there heats was 360 driver Tony Moule and David Murcott who was also out of the running for the Open Title. Getting down to the business end of the night the dash races were next on the card, Matthew Reed took the win in the 360 sprintcar dash to give him pole position in the Belmont Diesel 360 Title and Tim Van Ginneken tool pole position for the John Sidney Racing / Eureka Garages and Sheds Open Title with a win in his dash. Both these drivers along Jamie Veal, Domain Ramsay, Michael Cunningham and Jack Lee were doing double duty racing in both the open and 360 events and all drivers except for Cunningham would eventually qualify into both the 360 and Open Title A main events. Twenty five laps was the distance for the Victorian 360 Sprintcar Title, the start of this race was to be vital, Matthew Reed was the man to beat after taking the lead of the race at the drop of the green flag with Shane Heathcote settling into second place from Brenton Farrer leaving the rest of the pack to sort themselves out for the minor placings. With the slick track condition throttle control was the requirement and keeping the car straight for Reed to keep Heathcote and Farrer at bay, with both drivers keeping in touch with Reed waiting for a mistake it was Lock that was picking up the pace back in the field to make it a four way battle but Reed could not be denied the Win with a flawless drive from flag to flag taking out the Belmont Diesel 360 Sprintcar Victorian Title from Heathcote, Farrer and Lock, rounding out the finishers was , Liam Williams, Bill Fraser, Paul Solomon, Jack Lee, Peter Logue, Keke Falland, Michael Cunningham and Chris Solomon. For the Open sprintcar drivers a last chance C main and B Main were planned to be contested but due to time and three stoppages the C Main event was declared leaving the B Bain to go before the all important Open Sprintcar Title race, Jamie Veal, Glen Sutherland, Domain Ramsay, Adam King, David McKay and Darryl Campbell would all transfers to the back of the Open Title field from the B main. With the first start of the Open title race called back it was pole sitter Tim Van Ginneken to take the lead and set the pace when the green flag flew heading Darren Mollenoyux, Stephen Bell, Mike Van Bremen and Jack Bell across the line for the first time leaving the rest of the field to sort themselves out. Once again the order was to stay much the same for the first part of the race until the luckless Stephen Bell spun in turn three to bring on the caution lights. On the restart Van Ginneken resumed the lead with Mollenoyux keeping him in close proximity that inturn had Van Bremen breathing down his neck. Further back the running order had settled down with Lee, Vogels, Jones, Milburn and Sutherland heading of the rest of the pack. Mollenoyux was keeping the pressure on Van Ginneken that eventually paid of to make a move on lap twenty that would see him as the leader next time around, with the slick track conditions Mollenoyux knew he had to be careful not to make any mistakes as both Van Ginneken and Van Bremen were hot on his tail tank. As the laps wound down Mollenoyux slowed the pace down to make sure he could keep his car down near the pole line and not give his opponents an opportunity to take the race lead from him to take the chequered flag, less that nine tenths of a second covering the top three in yet another close finish in the Victorian Open Title presented by John Sidney Racing and Eureka Garages and Sheds. Rounding out the finishers was Jack Lee in forth place followed by John Vogels Dennis Jones, Brett Milburn, Glen Sutherland, Matthew Reed, Quentin tanner, Darryl Campbell, Stephen Bell, Domain Ramsay, Jamie Hennessy, Carl Ludeman and David McKay. John Sidney Racing and Belmont Diesel Sponsor Victorian Titles
Monday February 11, 2013. Ian Vale
The Sprintcar Racing Association of Victoria is pleased to announce John Sidney Racing as the Victoria Open Sprintcar Championship Title sponsor supported by Eureka Garages and Sheds while Belmont Diesel is the 360 Sprintcar Championship Title sponsor for this weekends Victoria State Championships to be conducted at Avalon Raceway Lara. The State Titles have received strong fields of nominations for both the Open and 360 events and thanks to John Sidney Racing, Eureka Garages and Sheds and Belmont Diesel there will be a prize money increase for both Titles main races. John Sidney Racing has been involved in the speedway industry for many years that which has seen John assist with wining many National and State Titles with various drivers but mainly with Max Dumesny during there twenty plus year’s association. John goes onto say “I think the state Titles deserves to carry more prestige as they used to. My company would like to be a part of that with our support and assistance to add a bit more to the Prestige of the events and prize money” The 360 Sprintcars are in the same boat thanks to 360 committee member Domain Ramsay having secured Belmont Diesel back for the second season as the primary sponsor for the 360 Sprintcar Title. Last season Brendan Gellion of Belmont Diesel attended the 360 Title at Simpson Speedway and enjoyed the event so much so he is please to back the race once again through his company Belmont Diesel. If this seasons Titles is anything like last seasons State Titles conducted at Simpson and Avalon Raceway then you will not want to miss this years events with both races on the same card at Avalon Raceway. History was created when Chris Solomon took out his first State Title in the 360 sprintcar division with a convincing drive at Simpson Speedway to defeat Tony Moule and Keke Falland to the Chequered flag. Chris will have his hand full once again defending his Title with both Moule and Falland back this year with a host of other top drivers, regular 360 Sprintcar drivers will include the wild man, Bill Fraser, Phil Lock, Shane Heathcote, Paul Solomon and Brad Foster. Now just to throw the cat among the pigeons there are a few of the regular open sprintcar drivers that will be doing double duty this weekend. 2010, 360 Champion Jamie Veal heads a list of the normal 410 drivers that will include Domain Ramsay, Jack Lee, Michael Cunningham, Tim Van Ginneken, Darren Hickman and the very fast Matthew Reed. While these drivers are regular 410 sprintcar drivers they all have had an occasional run in the 360 sprintcar ranks during the season. With the field locked and loaded the Belmont Diesel 360 Victorian Sprintcar Title will be a hotly contest event. The Open Sprintcar Title will be just as hotly contested with some of the best drivers in the business, one of the defending Victoria Open sprintcar Title drivers that will be back to try and take a clear victory in this race is Stephen Bell, yes that’s right one of the Open Title Champions, last season the Open title had two winners, Robbie Farr and Stephen Bell crossing the finish line in a dead heat finish and creating history in itself. While the Open Title is something that all the drivers want to win there are also a couple of other jewels in the crown on offer for some of the drivers, points towards the Avalon Track Championships for the new Essendon Ford Fiesta car at the seasons end. So also entered is current track championship points leader David Murcott who also won the Boxing Day Eureka Garages and Sheds Series round here at Avalon Raceway, Murcott wants to add another title to his 2006 victory as well. The race will have four past Victorian Champions in it that have six titles between them, Stephen Bell and Matthew Reed have two each and one each to John Vogels and David Murcott. The challenges for victory will come thick and fast from some of the hard charges that have tasted victory in recent time during the last couple of seasons headed by Jamie Veal, Mike Van Bremen, Brett Milburn who is on a high after his Eureka Series Victory last weekend and Darren Mollenoyux. Domain Ramsay has not forgotten the Title that got away either a couple of season’s back when he had a commanding lead in the race only to be collected by a car coming of the infield. With thirty eight Open sprintcar nominations for the John Sidney Racing Title supported by Eureka Garages and Sheds and twenty five plus nominations for the 360 sprintcar Belmont Diesel Title this is shaping up to be yet another big night of racing. Due to the big car counts for the Title weekend the format for both the Open and 360 Sprintcars will be starting off with time trials before one heat race each then the C and B Mains followed by dashes for the top qualifying sprintcars in the 360’s and Opens before the all important Main events. The Sprintcar Racing Association of Victoria wish to take this opportunity to thank John Sidney Racing and Eureka Garages and Sheds along with Belmont Diesel for the support of the 2013 Victorian Sprintcar Titles. Due to the big schedule of racing on track action is to commence at approximately 5.30pm, more information can be found at the Avalon Raceway web site www.avalonraceway.com

Chris Solomon 2012 Victorian 360 Sprintcar Champion

The Sprintcar Racing Association of Victoria thank their season sponsors and the Eureka Garages and Sheds Sprintcar Series sponsors: EUREKA GARAGES & SHEDS, KTM AUSTRALIA, ESSENDON FORD, MD MOTORSPORT, HOOSIER TIRE AUSTRALIA, CAMDEN NEON SIGNS, AMERICAN TIRE & RACING SERVICES, PARR MOTORSPORTS, JOHN SIDNEY RACING, CASCADE National Pty Ltd, THE METRIC MEN, D&F RACING PRODUCTS, ELF RACING FUELS, COREY GIBSON PHOTOGRAPHY, MAXAM PRINTING, SPRINTCARWORLD.
