Eureka Garages and Sheds Series Next Stop Avalon on Boxing Night
Author : Ian Vale

The Eureka Garages and Sheds Sprintcar Series keeps the momentum going with round five at Avalon Raceway Lara with another big field of entries on Boxing night, heading the list is the new Series points score leader Daniel Pestka along with Brett Milburn, Nick Lacey, Rod Matthews, John Vogels and Jamie Veal for what is traditionally one of the big rounds of the Series.

Both Brett Milburn and Nick Lacey had a poor night by their standards last Saturday night for round four of the Series at Premier Speedway and will be out to make amends on boxing night. With the strong level of competition for this round it will still be a hard task to qualify direct into the A Main. Jamie Veal returns to Avalon Raceway and may be the man to beat, Jamie took out the $10,000 to win Jackpot race earlier this season in sensational style, unfortunately an incident put him out of the race at Premier Speedway last weekend so he will be looking to make up for that with another win in the Series.

Rod Matthews has continued with his good run lately that has seen him move up to fourth place in the point’s standings sitting only four points shy of Nick Lacey in third place, a top four or five is not out of the question from Rod at this round. Ian Loudoun returns to the Avalon venue, a place that Ian has had some good results at and after having a run last week in Essendon Ford V3 machine he will be more comfortable in the car at this round of the Series and will be wanting to finish at the pointy end of the Eureka A Main event.

Tasmanian Tim Hutchins has made the commitment to race on the mainland and has nominated for the next few rounds of the Series, while it has been a while since Tim raced on the mainland tracks it will not take him long to show his potential and become a major player at each round. Glen Sutherland was another driver that didn’t have things go his way at Premier Speedway but Glen has had some very impressive performance so far this season that had him lead the Eureka Garages and Sheds Series points for the first two rounds of the Series.

Five time Eureka Series Champion John Vogels is always fast at the Avalon venue and must go into this round as one of the main contenders for a victory. A few of the other regular Series drivers nominated are Adam King, Darren Hickman, Jamie Hennessy who was very impressive with his performance at Premier speedway, Dennis Jones along with Daniel Newnham and last season Rookie of the year Luke Walker will be amongst the hard chargers on the night.

With a host of the regular Series competitors that have nominated in the forty five plus field they will all have their work cut out to make the Eureka Garages and Sheds A Main at this round of the Series that also double as the Avalon Raceway Gold Cup and round one of the Essendon Ford Avalon Track Championship.

Joining the field from New South Wales for the first time is Mark Attard who will also be joined by a few other drivers that will be having their first run this season in the Eureka Series, Wayne Logue, and Brad Foster along with Chris Best who will be out looking for some good results.

On track action will commence at around 6pm with engine starts and hot laps, more information on this event can be found at the Avalon Raceway web site www.avalonraceway.com
