Hickmans Tree Maintenance 360 Sprintcar Challenge to Heartland
Author : Ian Vale

This Saturday night the Sprintcar Racing Association of Victoria heads to Heartland Raceway Echuca/Moama for the Hickmans Tree Maintenance 360 Sprintcar Challenge.

The 360 Sprintcar Challenge is exactly that, a good mix of open sprintcar drivers that will run with the smaller engines against the regular 360 drivers that have what it takes to run at the pointy end of the field.

Where the field lacks in big car counts it certainly doesn’t lack in the quality of drivers and competition. Three of the drivers nominated, Domain Ramsay, Chris Solomon and Matthew Reed have won the Victoria 360 Sprintcar Championship.

Domain Ramsay is the current Victorian 360 Champion and while he is a regular open driver Domain enjoys racing the 360 car when time allows and would like to add another 360 sprintcar event to this season’s resume.

Chris Solomon is a regular 360 Sprintcar Driver and won the Victoria Title at Simpson Speedway in 2012, Chris is a very consistent driver and is always at the pointy end of the field.

Matthew Reed is also a past Victorian 360 and Open Title holder as well as a seven times SRA Open / Eureka Series Champion, Matthew must head into the Hickmans Tree Maintenance 360 Challenge as favourite.

While these three drivers have good scores on the board Brenton Farrer is more that capable of winning this events, earlier in the season Brenton took out the SRA 360 Gold Cup at Western Speedway Hamilton with fine drive.

One of the season’s rookie drivers Dion Bellman received plenty of attention after just a couple of drives showing his raw speed and ability behind the wheel of the 360 Sprintcar, Dion has been one of the stand out drivers this season.

Another young driver that has been given the opportunity to drive a 360 Sprintcar this season is Braydan Parr, Braydan had to a wait a little while at the start of the season to turn of age to be able to drive one of these monster. Wait he did and Braydan has been very impressive to date, at the last round of the Eureka Garages and Sheds Open Sprintcar Series conducted at Heartland Raceway in February Braydan had a great race to lead Grant Anderson and open a handy lead before an unfortunate spin to loose the lead of the race. That experience will be valuable for him this weekend.

Terang’s Luke Cole will make the trip to Heartland Raceway for the first time this Saturday, Luke will be looking to gain more experience on the big open race track.

Chris Campbell has had few seasons off from racing but over the last couple of months he has returned to racing and is an entry for this Saturday as well.

Darren Hickman is a regular in the Sprintcar events conducted at Heartland Raceway and Darren mixes his racing between the open and 360 sprintcars with great success around Victoria, a top three finish for Darren is not out of the question.

Two other drivers that want nothing more than to win this event is Deniliquin’s Eddie Lumbar and Kyneton driver Micheal Cunningham; now these drivers have friendly rivalry that goes all season when competing against each other. Last year Eddie finished third in this event while Michael came home in seventh place. An unfortunate crash for Eddie last weekend in the Eureka Garages and Sheds Series saw him drop down the points to finish the Series behind Michael Cunningham. Eddie wants redemption but more so these two want barging rights this weekend.

So the stage is set with some quality drivers looking to take the cash in the Hickmans Tree Maintenance 360 Sprintcar Challenge at Heartland Raceway Echuca/Moama and all indications are the weather is looking good and everything is pointing to another good night racings for the Sprintcars that will also be supporting the National Super Sedan Series that has some of the biggest name drivers from around the country in the field to make this top night of Racing.
