Victorian Sprintcar Racing looking strong for 2015-2016 Season

One Season Closes while a New One Opens for the SRA of Victoria
Author : Ian Vale

The 2014-2015 Season for the Sprintcar Racing Association of Victoria is about to come to a close with yet another sell out for the annual Presentation Dinner to be held in Geelong on the 23rd of May but while this will be the final event for 2014-2015 the SRA of Vic Inc is pleased to be able to release the intended race dates for the new 2015-2016 racing season.

The annual SRA presentation dinner has been very success over the last few seasons with a full house each year and the 2015 dinner is no different with another sell out. The 2014-2015 racing season was very successful once again. This season a few of the new drivers, Jye Okeeffe and Dion Bellman were very impressive on their debut year. Some of the other drivers, Corey McCullagh, Luke Walker, Adam King and Brad Warren also put in some outstanding performance showing that sprintcar racing in and around Victoria is a healthy state with the new talent heading in the right direction to challenge some of the more experienced competitors.

Congratulations must go to Jamie Veal and his Team for an outstanding season that they have had, what a performance at Parramatta to get his season under way? Starting off with three feature wins in a row at Parramatta then to Heartland Raceway for a dominating win where he lapped the field up to second place on his way to another victory. One week later and he was back in victory lane with the $10,000 to win Avalon Raceway jackpot, Jamie and the V35 Team were in good form and they would continue to be the dominating Team in Australia with any more victories during the 2014-2015 season.

David Murcott is another Victorian driver that has had a brilliant season so far and still has a couple of shows to go up in Queensland to finish of his season. David has taken out feature race wins in Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland and Western Australia and while in Western Australia David took out the Australia Sprintcar Championship with back to back victories before finishing in second place the following week in the World Series Sprintcar tour. A recent victory at Archerfield Speedway has David hungry for a couple more wins to end the season off.

The Eureka Garages and Sheds Sprintcar Series was again the outstanding Sprintcar Series that it has been over the years that was dominated by Jamie Veal, such was Jamie’s dominance there was only one other driver, Steven Lines that took a couple of victories in the Eureka Series. While Jamie Veal was the man the beat the Series still came down to the final race and was between three drivers to take the Eureka Garages and Sheds Series Crown for the 2014-2015 season.

The end result was another win for Jamie to clinch the Eureka Series Title from Brett Milburn and Daniel Pestka, Daniel had made a big commitment to travel over from Adelaide each weekend to drive for the Matthew Eastham’s V88 Team that not only picked up third place in the Eureka Series but Daniel also won the Victoria Open Sprintcar Title and the Avalon Raceway / Essendon Ford track Championship. The SRA congratulate these drivers plus all the other drivers that saw one hundred different drivers compete in the Eureka Series this year that made it the success it was once again.

So to the new season of 2015-2016 and what a season it will be with thirty four sprintcar events booked in through the Sprintcar Racing Association of Victoria to be conducted in and around Victoria. The proposed race events will consist of a fourteen round SRA Eureka Series, the annual Avalon Raceway $10,000 to win jackpot invitational race along with many other Blue Ribbon events, the Victorian Open and 360 Sprintcar Titles, the Presidents Cup, King Challenge, Grand Annual Sprintcar Classic and then throw in for good measure the Australian Open Sprintcar Championship to be conducted the week after the Classic at Premier Speedway. Also slated down on the calendar is the Australia 360 Sprintcar Championship to be conducted at Mt Gambier on the long weekend in March.

All this and more plus the final rounds of the SRA Series that will see the grand final for this season go to Simpson Speedway on the 19th of March, the SRA thank both Premier Speedway and Simpson Speedway that normally conducted two $5000 to win shows on the long weekend in March for working in with Borderline Speedway to allow the Australian 360 Title to go ahead on the Friday and Saturday night of that weekend. Premier Speedway will still be racing with a $5000 to win round of the SRA Series on the Sunday night as long as mother nature is good to Mt Gambier.

Now the seasons racing doesn’t stop there, the annual Easter Sprintcar Trail that was a fantastic success in 2014-2015 will be conducted on the last weekend of March before another $10,000 to win feature race that will be at Blue Ribbon Raceway Horsham on the second of April to finish of the Open sprintcar Season. April 9th will see the final event for 2015-2016 with the Annual SRA 360 Sprintcar Challenge, other SRA 360 Sprintcar events will be conducted at Western Speedway Hamilton for the 360 Gold Cup in December and also at Avalon Raceway in January for the Vitoria 360 Sprintcar Title.

All in all this will the biggest sprintcar season seen in Victoria and with Series and Season sponsor to be announced in the near future 2015-2016 season is the one not to miss in Victoria.
