The Eureka Series Next Stop Avalon with $5000 to win On The Line
Author : Ian Vale

The Eureka Garages and Sheds Sprintcar Series heads to Avalon Raceway this weekend for round eleven of the Series that will pay $5000 to win on the night.
A strong field of nominations have been received for this event that also doubles as the annual Great Southern Showdown that will see all the main contenders in the Series booked in for the event.

The format for this round of the Series will start off with the popular Heat Group Time trials that will give the drivers there starting positions in their two heat races each to qualify for the Main events.

Six of the drivers entered, David Murcott, Peter Doukas, Glen Sutherland, Ian Loudoun and Tim Rankin have all won one of the Eureka Series A Main events so far this season with the exception of Corey McCullagh who is the only driver to have won two Main events.

All these drivers have a strong chance for yet another win but there are two other drivers that are looking for their first feature win in the Series.

The current series point’s leader Tim Van Ginneken has been so close to taking a win, he has shown the speed is there to do it while the current Eureka Garages & Sheds Series Champion Brett Milburn who is sitting in second place in the points standing is showing the form needed to win.

Add these two drivers to the drivers that have taken a feature win in the Series far this season and you have one of the toughest nights of the Series so far this season.

Two other past Eureka Garages & Sheds Series Champions that have also nominated for this round of the Series is five time Series Champion John Vogels and the 2011-2012 Series Champ Darren Mollenoyux will certainly be major contenders on the night.

Jackson Delamont from New South Wales put in a good performance at the recent Australian Sprintcar Title in Sydney taking sixth place in the event, Jackson while only a young driver has ventured to the Avalon venue a few times in the past couple of season’s, a strong result is on the cards for him.

Brayden Parr continues to shine this season, Brayden was last season’s most improved driver of the year and he has stepped it up another notch again this season. Brayden currently sits in fifth place in the Series after a strong run over the last few rounds of the series that has seen him finish in third place at the last round at Hamilton, Redline he came home in fifth place and in second place at Heartland Raceway, another top three placing will not be surprising.

Brad Warren is sitting just outside the KTM to ten, after having to miss a couple of rounds due a big crash in the Series, he is clawing his way back into contention once again, a top three placing at Redline was a strong result, unfortunately though a front row start at the last round did not go his way where Brad failed to finish and lost some valuable points but he is only twenty three points out of the KTM top ten.

With all the top twenty drivers in the Eureka Garages & Sheds points standings with the exception of Jye Okeeffe who is out injured nominated for this round of the Series it will be another tough night of racing and once again just to qualify for the Eureka Garages & Sheds A main will be a feat in itself.

And there is a bit of a bonus for the forty plus drivers that have nominated and for the spectators attending round eleven of the Series as well as the Eureka Garages & Sheds personal attending for their corporate, just across the road will be the Avalon Air show during the day and into the evening that will see some aerial activity during the day and night.

To the teams and spectators it is advised to allow plenty of time to get to Avalon Raceway for this round of the Eureka Series that also doubles as the Great Southern Showdown due to the heavy traffic anticipated for the International Air show being on.

Avalon Raceway Saturday the 4th of March, Eureka Garages & Sheds Sprintcar Series R11 / Great Southern Showdown, engine stars at approximately 5.30 pm with heat time trials to follow shortly afterwards.
