It’s time for the Eureka Sprintcar Series to head to Hamilton
Author : Ian Vale
This weekend the Eureka Garages & Sheds Sprintcar Series heads to Western Speedway Hamilton for round ten of the Series that also marks the two third distance of this seasons Series with all the main players nominated in what is becoming a very hotly contest Series between the top four drivers in the KTM points standings.
Tim Van Ginneken took the lead of the Series back at the last round after a strong nights racing and taking second place in the main event gave him enough points to move to the top of the table just ahead of the only driver to take two feature round wins so far in the Series, Corey McCullagh.
Glen Sutherland dropped from the top spot at the last round of the Series at Redline Raceway while sitting in a comfortable fifth place in the feature when his machine suffered a puncture to put him out of the race and dropped him down to third place in the standing. The current Eureka Garages & Sheds Series Champion Brett Milburn took a sixth place finish to hold fourth place in the Series Championship and to keep himself in with a shot at another Eureka Series Crown.
With only one hundred and seventy seven points between these four drivers who are all nominated and with just over four hundred points on offer each night of the Series is still a wide open affair where the top four Tim Van Ginneken, Corey McCullagh, Glen Sutherland and Brett Milburn are all capable of taking a win in this round.
Now Western Speedway Hamilton is a big track that gets the drivers attention especially when the track is tacky and more often than not the racing is fast and furious. With yet another strong field of nominations this weekend’s round of the Eureka Garages & Sheds Series is sure to be another exciting night of racing.
Jacob Smith and Charles Hunter are two of this seasons most improved drivers with very consistent performances and then throw in the young gun Brayden Parr who sit in fifth place in the standings, any of these three drivers are capable of a podium finish at Hamilton.
Brad Warren driving the Bruce Stephens V91 car is in good form after taking third place at Redline, Brad knows his way around the Hamilton venue and another strong performance is on the cards.
Another of the young up and coming drivers is Jordyn Charge, Jordyn is sitting just outside of the KTM top ten and this weekend he returns to Western Speedway the place where he recorded his first sprintcar feature early this season when he took out the Victorian 360 Sprintcar Title, the team will have the 410 power plant back in the Western Nissan V60 Sprintcar for this event.
Five time Eureka Garages & Sheds Series Champion John Vogels has thrown his hat into the rings as well, expect a bold showing for the V70 pilot. Tim Rankin Will be in the family V47 Cool car this weekend, Tim is no stranger to Western Speedway where he has tasted victory.
Warrnambool driver Peter Doukas won round three of the Series at Avalon Raceway earlier this season, while Peter and the team are only running a limited program this season he should be one of the drivers right in the mix and is a contender to be the second driver from the nine rounds contest so far to take another win.
Some of the other regular drivers that will make the trip to Hamilton are Dennis Jones, Eddie Lumbar, Terry King, David Aldersley, Adam King, Ashley Scott and two Ballart drivers, Rod Matthews along with Sam Wren.
Scott Reilly will be making his first appearance at yet another new venue this season and the Hamilton speedway will offer another challenge to the Western Australian who has his team based in Cobden but fly’s over from Perth each weekend to be a part of the Eureka Garages & Sheds Sprintcar Series.
