Anderson Returns to Winning Ways at Heartland Eureka Round
Author : Ian Vale
After a run of misfortunes at Heartland Raceway Moama Albury driver Grant Anderson took a well deserved feature win in round nine of the Eureka Garages & Sheds Sprintcar Series from South Australia’s Ryan Jones and Victorian Charles Hunter.
With the sprintcar action springing into life with hot laps Brenten Farrer was the first to strike trouble with a motor issue that would put him out for the night or so he thought. His good friend Jesse Nicholas was quick to get out of his own sprintcar and put Brenten into it to keep him in the Eureka Series point’s chase that would pay off by night’s end with a strong finish in A Main after having to start from the rear of the field.
Both Mark Carlin and David Donegan would also be eliminated from the program during the first round of heat races.
Young Jordyn Charge was in form and after the heat races were run Jordyn was the top point’s scorer of the night but to hold P1 in the Eureka Garages & Sheds A Main event there would be two Shootouts for the top six drivers. With the shootouts over Jordyn lost out on a possible P1 start, the Main event top six would be Grant Anderson, Charles Hunter, Jordyn Charge, Chris Solomon, Brayden Parr and Dennis Jones.
The other qualifiers in order for the Eureka Series round nine Main event were Terry Rankin, Grant Stansfield, Chris Campbell, Ryan Davis, Sam Wren, Ryan Jones, Bobby Daly, Andrew Hughes, Eddie Lumbar, Darren Clarke, Paul Solomon, David Aldersley, Troy Hose and Brenten Farrer.
With the field set for a start Daly who was sitting in second place in the points standing had suffered chassis damage in his second heat race but still qualified to start from position thirteen in the Main event elected to go to the rear of the field and try to salvage what points he could on the night.
After two attempts to start the race it would be Anderson to lead the pack away for the thirty lap journey from Hunter, Chris Solomon and Jordyn Charge but it was not long before the yellow lights were to remove Troy Hose’s car from the track after spinning to a halt with a flat right rear tire due his tyre bleeder failing.
Back under way again for one more lap when a spinning car in turn two left Lumbar to take evasive action only to be collected by Aldersley that would see both drivers out of the race. Chris Solomon also rolled his machine to the infield with a drive line issue to end his night as well.
Take three and Anderson was in control with Hunter keeping him in his sights from Parr, Charge, Dennis Jones, Davis and Ryan Jones who was now up to seventh place from position twelve. It was not long before Jones made the pass on Davis that would see Davis become the excitement machine of the race. With most of the racing up high on the track Davis was just that bit higher than most kissing the concrete wall on a few occasions try to get his placing back.
While the top five drivers, Anderson, Hunter, Parr, Charge and now Ryan Jones were moving away from the pack Dennis Jones, Davis and Rankin were putting a show of their own to be followed by Stansfield, Paul Solomon, Farrer and Wren. Mid race distance and Campbell spun to bring on the yellow lights once more, this time Campbell would be out to be followed by Daly with flat right rear tyre to end his efforts on the night.
Anderson lead the pack away once more with Hunter still in close pursuit followed by Parr and now Jones from Charge and the excitement machine Davis who continued to test the concrete wall in an effort to go forward, this effort would be short lived while approaching the two thirds distance when the turn three wall put an end to Davis run after he hit it a little too hard and rolled to be out of the race.
So it was now a run to the flag with Anderson still in control at the restart only this time with clear air Anderson upped the pace a little to open a big gap back to Hunter who now had Jones on his tail, Charge was also on the move to pass Parr for fourth place while further back both Paul Solomon and Farrer had moved into sixth and seventh places demoting Jones into Rankin’s sights.
Four to go and Anderson was in charge putting in a sterling a drive to have a big gap back to Hunter and Jones who was all over Hunter to take second place with three to go but Anderson was too good on the night and went on to take a popular victory in round nine of the Eureka Garages & Sheds Series.
The finish order would be Grant Anderson 1st, Ryan Jones 2nd, Charles Hunter 3rd from Jordyn Charge, Brayden Parr Paul Solomon, Brenten Farrer who passed the most cars in the race, (thirteen cars) then it was Dennis Jones, Terry Rankin, Grant Stansfield, Sam Wren, Darren Clarke and Andrew Hughes.
Heat wins went to, V60 Jordyn Charge, V83 Chris Solomon, V8 Bobby Daly, VA29 Terry Rankin, V37 Grant Anderson and V77 Brayden Parr.
