Another excellent night of racing in round 7 of the Eureka Garages and Sheds Sprintcar Series was capped with a fantastic A-main won by former series champ Corey McCullagh. Once again, the race winner didn’t have it all his own way as McCullagh was passed mid race by Tasmania’s Tate Frost before a caution bunched the field enabling McCullagh to sizzle around the highline and grab a popular win ahead of a fast finishing Brett Milburn while Rusty Hickman produced the drive of the night sailing from 12th starting spot in the B-main to third in the A-main.

Seering heat welcomed more than 41 teams to the Avalon Raceway pits and credit to the Drew family for once again producing a racy track with multiple passing lanes by race end.

McCullagh would start on pole position alongside Frost and he set about controlling the pace in the final before the back markers began to play a part in the race forcing drivers to search around and look for room as they advanced forward. The racing throughout the final from many of the 18 starters was excellent giving fans value for money.

Despite losing the lead mid race, McCullagh would cross the finish line ahead of Milburn who is producing some vintage form that saw him win three Eureka Garages and Sheds championships in his stellar career.

Third across the line was Hickman in the Dave Challons owned V45 while earlier in the evening Hickman missed the invert in his heat race qualifying however passed much of the field on his way to a memorable result in front of an appreciative audience.

Daniel Pestka raced well all night on his way to a fourth place finish ahead of Tate Frost in fifth who can count himself desperately unlucky not to have finished higher up considering he was leading mid race before a mid race caution evaporated a handy lead he had built.

Once again Jordy Rae’s consistency produced a sixth place finish ahead of Grant Anderson, Tim Hutchins, B-main winning Terry Rankin with Bobby Daly rounding out the top 10. It’s worth noting that any one of the top 10 could have been further advanced however the racing was intense with finish results at a premium.

Ashley Cook finished just outside of the top 10 after qualifying fourth while behind Cook was Adam King, the impressive Carly Walsh, Dennis Jones and Josh Buckingham who qualified well in sixth however a mid race caution saw him restart at the tail of the field.

Only three non finishers in the A-main included last start feature winner Grant Stansfield with a flat left rear, Matthew Reed with damage to the front end and Jake Smith with steering damage in the opening laps.

Rankin won the B-main while all eyes were on Hickman who scorched around the highline to finish second in a clear sign of things to come.

The C-main was won by Chris Solomon while earlier heat race wins went the way of Ashley Cook, Jake Smith, Daniel Pestka and by far the best reception was reserved for heat 4 winner Carly Walsh.

Earlier in qualifying Josh Buckingham, Tate Frost, Corey McCullagh and Terry Rankin proved to be the quickest cars in their respective heat race groups.

Also included in a mega program for the SRA was the opening round of the C&H Trucking Prosprint series with the popular A-main win going to Charles Hunter ahead of the rapidly closing Brenten Farrer, Jordy Rae doing double duty finishing third ahead of Brett Milburn who also did double duty while Sam Wren finished a solid fifth.

The C&H Trucking B-main was impressively won by Shane Steenholdt while heat race wins went the way of Sam Wren while Paul Solomon was the highlight quick timing in his group and then ripping from sixth to the win in his heat race to the pole sitter for the final. Farrer was the other fast time winner in his group.

The Eureka Garages and Sheds Sprintcar Series now takes a break while the biggest Sprintcar races on the calendar are conducted through late January while round 8 of the series heads to Heartland Raceway, Moama on February 4.
