Goodyer takes the SRA Open Series, McHugh takes the C&H Series
Author : SRA Media

It was a big night on the cards at Premier Speedway last night with near on seventy sprintcars in the pits ready to race and looking for glory in the two SRA Sprintcar Series. Jock Goodyer showed why he carries the Number One plate on his Sprintcar when took the SRA Open Sprintcar Series feature race win while Queensland’s Lockie McHugh mastered the Premier Speedway clay way to capture the opening round of the C&H Trucking Pro Sprintcar Series.

The Open Series drivers contested four qualifying groups to seed them into the heat races that would see qualifying times in the low ten second bracket to give the drivers the task of getting the right set up for the heat races.

The heat races run and won it was time to get down to business for the SRA Open Sprintcar Series feature that would be run prior to the C&H Trucking Series Main event.

The twenty drivers that were set to greet the green flag in qualifying order were, Jamie Veal, Jy Corbet, Brock Hallett, Jock Goodyer, Brett Milburn, Lachie McHugh, Rusty Hickman, Mick Saller, Daniel Pestka, Glen Sutherland, Tate Frost, Alex Orr, Jessie Attard, Daniel Sayer, Chad Ely, Jorydan Brazier, Bobby Daly, Cam Waters, Ryan Jones and Marcus Dumesny.

Veal won the start to lead the pack away from Hallett only for it to go wrong on the second lap when Hallett spun high into the air after hitting a rut going into turn one to bring on the red lights. Back underway and Veal now had Corbet, Goodyer and Milburn for close company until another red light situation.

With the fast racing surface this was catching a few drivers out that would see the elimination of six drivers before the race got to ten laps. The race eventually settled down and the spectators got to see some very fast and close racing, Veal was looking very strong heading into the traffic, but Goodyer had found another gear and set sail after Veal while Pestka, Brazier, Orr, McHugh and Jones were all running in close company with each other.

As the race headed to the dying stages Goodyer had moved up to the top of the track and was setting a cracking pace to take the race lead from Veal with six to go, a lap later and it was over for Jones who rolled and ended his run.
At the restart Goodyer has great car speed to go on and take the race win from Veal by a little over three seconds, third home was Pestka, rounding out the finishers in order was Brazier, Dumesny, Orr, McHugh, Saller and Attard.

Tim Hutchins, Marcus Green, Terry Rankin and Luke Thomas transferred from the C Main to the back of the B Main event.

The last chance B-Main for drivers to transfer to the A Main event was taken out by Chad Ely from Jorydan Brazier, Bobby Daly, Cameron Waters, Ryan Jones and Marcus Dumesny.

Heat group fast qualifiers were Jamie Veal, Brock Hallett, Jock Goodyer, Daniel Pestka.

Heat wins went to Glen Sutherland, Brett Milburn, Jy Corbet, Lachlan McHugh.

With the first of two feature races run it was time for the C&H Tucking Pro Sprintcar Series A Main that would run a lot smoother than the previous event.

A very quality field of twenty six Pro Sprintcar drivers assemble for the open round of the 2023-2024 C&H Trucking Pro Sprintcar Series that included two drivers from the previous event, Jamie Veal and Lockie McHugh.

All drivers would contest two heat races each to set their qualifying orders for both the B Main and C&H Trucking A Main event.

Again Jamie Veal topped the points table to give him the P1 position for the main event, Lockie McHugh lined up alongside of Veal on the front row, row 2 had Sam Wren and the current C&H Trucking Series Champion Jordan Rae, row 3, Matthew Symons - Steven Loader, row 4 Boyd Harris - Dennis Jones, row 5 Travis Millar - Nigel laity, row 6 Jack Van Bremen – Harry Ross, row 7 Steven Horton – Luke Cole, row 8 Josh Buckingham – Kim Loong and row 9 Justin Drew – Adam Greenwood.

Lockie McHugh was on his game for the start of the C&H Trucking A Main taking the lead right from the drop of the green flag that he would not relinquish. Veal was in hot pursuit but had to contend with Rae. Wren lost fourth place to Loader and Jones in the first couple of laps, but he managed pass Jones back to be fifth place when the caution lights came to remove Boyd Harris’s car that had come to a stop.

McHugh was in command leading both Veal and Rae while Jones was on the move and taken both Loader and Wren to be in fourth place by mis race distance.

McHugh was into lapping traffic to open the gap over Veal who had a serious challenge for second place from Rae going on, seven to go and Rae was into second place.

The caution light was back on when Horton blew a trye to end his good run. Five to go and McHugh was still in control when the race restarted, This was Veal chance to try and retake Rae but Rae was having nothing to do with that, Jones was now throwing everything he had to try to take third place from Veal but as the chequered flag was waved that challenge was over.

Lockie McHugh put in a great drive to take the race from flag to flag, Jordan Rae has kept his good form going from last season to come home in second place from Jamie Veal and Dennis Jones.

Rounding out the finishers in order was Steven loader, Matthew Symons, Nigel Laity, Sam Wren, Josh Buckingham, Jack Van Bremen, Travis Millar, Luke Cole, Kim Loong, Justin Drew and Adam Greenwood.

The heat races were taken out by VA70 Matthew Symons, V88 Jamie Veal, V2 Lockie McHugh and V19 Sam Wren.

The last chance B-Main for drivers to transfer to the A Main event was taken out by VA8 Steven Horton from VA82 Luke Cole, V23 Josh Buckingham, VA68 Kim Loong, VA7 Justin Drew and VA11 Phil Micallef who all transferred to the A Main.
