The SRA Open Sprintcar Series Springs back into life at Portland
Author : SRA Media

This Saturday night the SRA Open Sprintcar Series fires into life at Portland’s Southern 500 Speedway with more than 20 Sprintcars set to take to the popular venue. Hot on the heels of last summer's incredibly successful return to the venue following more than three decades away, once again a host of great names are looking for success.

Bobby Daly continues to lead the series standings and will be in a good position to continue his charge toward a maiden series title should Daly continue his consistency this Saturday evening. Daly has impressively raced against the best in the business during a busy Christmas / New Year period over recent weeks.

Daly’s hottest competition will come in the form of last season’s series runner up Terry Rankin who’s elected to concentrate on the SRA Open Sprintcar Series and again finds himself in series contention following another consistent series during the opening eight rounds.

Exciting South Australian Daniel Pestka is also among the entries and the former series champion will once again be a leading threat for the win at Portland.

Grant Stansfield, Will Carroll and Ashley Cook all won rounds of the SRA Open Sprintcar Series last season and once again will be in the mix for the win on Saturday night. All three have been busy through the hectic January period and will be keen for success on the domestic front as the series begins to wind down.

In exciting developments former series runner up and multiple WA Sprintcar title holder Tim Van Ginneken will be among the entrants as he makes a welcome return. Van Ginneken’s battle with his health is hopefully behind him and he can concentrate on family and of course Sprintcar racing. The familiar Anderson Motorsport V44 will be a popular inclusion as TVG is a popular both with fans and his peers.

A brilliant mix of young prospects include 17 year old Parker Scott who joins former national Formula 500 champion Josh Buckingham in the field.

Experience is also on the side of Jake Smith, Michael Tancredi, Stephen Spark and David Dennison while they will all be chasing the Portland win. Leigh Mugavin and Thomas McDonald will also be adding themselves to the mix.

A great group of Pro Sprintcars will also bolster the field with Harry Ross, Daniel Storer, Jordy Langdon, Matt Symons, Phil Micallef and Shaun Lyness among a very healthy field.

Fans and teams alike are reminded that the Melbourne to Warrnambool Cycling Classic will also be staged Saturday and if you need to make alternative travel arrangements then please be mindful of the possible delays.

A great night is assured at Portland’s Southern 500 Speedway this Saturday night for round 9 of the SRA Open Sprintcar Series.
